IMPORTANT: You will fly into Keflavik (KEF) International Airport. It is a former US military base and the main airport in Iceland. Please arrive by 10 am. Most flights arrive between 4 am and 9 am. There is lodging near Keflavik. If you want to visit the capital city of Reykjavik it is about 45 minutes away and easily accessed via the Fly bus. For travel, we ask that your flight arrive before 10 am on Saturday Sept 7th and depart anytime on Monday Sept 16th. Note that your departing flight from North American will need to be scheduled for Sept 6th.
Our lodging Sunday night is at the airport hotel and within walking distance to the airport. 
You will also be responsible for gate fees, liquor, gifts, souvenirs, some meals, snacks and personal items.  Please keep your receipts for a VAT (value added tax) refund when you fly home.

Saturday Sept 7- Pick up at airport/airport. Meet right at cafe past car rentals—turn left when exiting security.
Thingvellir Natl Park—park near Oxararfoss
Fontana—YES! This is THE place from “Back to Earth” Ep 1 with Zac Efron
Geysir (eat lunch at cafe—unless we eat at Fontana)
Gullfoss—“secret” trail—about 1.5 miles will need hiking shoes—poles if desired
Check in to Anna Country Hotel Apartments.

Seljalandsfoss & Gljufrabui waterfall
Nauthusagil Canyon
F249 to Thorsmork—secret canyon, possibly to Basar
Black Sand Beach



 

Monday Sept 9- Pakgil—hike to waterfall (2 miles will need hiking shoes—poles optional). Pack lunch 
A—hike to glacier (6 miles—poles helpful). B—explore Vik
Dyrholaey for sunset—possible hiking



 

Tuesday Sept 10- Sunrise/early morning—Skogafoss
Return to hotel for breakfast
Skogar Day
A. Hike along first part of Fimmvorduhals trail (up to 16 miles). B. Skogar Museum, Kvernufoss waterfall 



 

Wednesday Sept 11- Pack to check out of hotel 
Drive to Hali Country Inn near Jokulsarlon
Fjadrargljufur Canyon or alternative canyon (2-3 miles)
Sunset at Jokulsarlon (hotel 15 min away)
Alternative: hike to a glacier Hijallanes-Skalafellsjokull



 

Thursday Sept 12- Sunrise/early morning—Jokulsarlon
Return to hotel for breakfast
Kayak on Heinabergslon
Weird Rock Formations 
Return to Jokulsarlon, Breidarlon, Hoffellsjokull or another



 

Friday Sept 13- Sunrise at Jokulsarlon
Return to hotel for breakfast & Pack to check out of hotel
Drive to the Highland Center Hrauneyjar (5-6 hours) possibly via F208 from RR1. Two nights at the Highland Center.




 

Monday Sept 16 -Say good-bye at the hotel
Checkout is either 11am or noon. A late check out can be arranged for a small fee, if available
Vehicles are returned Saturday night or by 7am on Sunday.

Sunday Sept 15- Sunrise along F208 or at Gjain
Gjain—if took F208 to Highlands
Blue Lagoon at 6pm
Stay at Aurora Star Airport Hotel

-Tripod—perhaps more than a light travel tripod

what to bring

Clothing: Below are a few of the suggested items
- Smartwool or technical material is preferred.
- Trail Shoes (2 of 2 pairs—Gore-tex/waterproof)
- Waterproof or Weather Resistant Camera Bag with Waterproof Cover.
- Gore-Tex (or similar) breathable membrane waterproof hardshell jacket
- Sunglasses, Sunscreen and Chap Stick
- Packable Down Jacket
- Trail Tights or Hiking Pants
- Watch or timing device
- Gloves (2 pair are recommended) 
- Technical material socks, underwear and base layers.

✓ Good underwear and socks. Moisture wicking material preferred like Smart wool
✓ Sports Shield or other anti-chaffing material
✓ Comfortable shoes. We will be hiking so water resistant and slip resistant shoes are ideal. Water proof Trail shoes or hiking boots preferred.
✓ Rain gear. Jackets, hoods, and plastic bags to protect yourself and your equipment.
✓ Hiking Poles - Eddie Bauer Collapsible
✓ Flashlight with extra batteries- Head lamps that have a red light option are preferred.
✓ Laptop computer. Computer power adapter
✓ Post Production Software loaded on your computer
✓ Notebook/Pen - You will want to remember all you learned.
✓ Insect Repellent. You can purchase bear spray in MT
✓ Spending money. $25 cash for Horse Drive Dinner. You will be responsible for some meals, liquor, gate fees and/or gift items. Most park locations accept major credit cards. Limited ATM access

✓ OTC Medication. These items are available in Gardiner

Please try to pack in One large Suitcase, one small personal bag and one Equipment bag. Space is limited in Vans. You may have to carry smaller bags in your lap to and from Airport
